From 21 to 23 October, City Hall in Hamilton will host a three‑day signing event where residents can add their names and handprints to a 12‑by‑20‑foot High Seas Legacy Declaration. The declaration is part of a broader initiative to raise awareness of Bermuda’s vital role in protecting the Sargasso Sea, the sea‑weed‑laden expanse that lies just west of the island and is a key habitat for migratory marine life.

The event aims to bring together the local community, scientists and conservation groups to celebrate the island’s maritime heritage while underscoring the importance of preserving the oceanic environment that supports Bermuda’s fishing industry and tourism economy. By signing the declaration, participants will help cement a pledge to safeguard the Sargasso Sea against pollution, over‑fishing and climate‑related changes.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit City Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on each day, where volunteers will assist with the signing process and provide information on the ongoing conservation projects. The high‑profile event will also feature a brief presentation by the Marine Conservation Society of Bermuda, highlighting recent research findings and future action plans.

The High Seas Legacy Declaration will be displayed in the Hall’s main atrium, ensuring that every visitor to the civic centre will see the island’s commitment to the health of the surrounding oceans.
