A former education consultant has been appointed to lead a new road‑safety initiative in Bermuda, following a decision by the Department of Transportation and the Ministry of Education. The contract, worth an estimated $250,000 over two years, will see the consultant coordinate a series of campaigns aimed at reducing road‑related accidents.

The appointee, who spent the last decade working on curriculum development and teacher training, brings a breadth of experience in stakeholder engagement and public communication. The selection process considered candidates with a proven track record in project management and community outreach.

Road safety remains a top priority for the island, with traffic incidents accounting for the majority of injury‑related hospital admissions in recent years. The new program is slated to roll out a comprehensive driver education scheme, enhanced signage, and a partnership with the Bermuda Police Service to increase enforcement of speed limits.

Work is expected to begin in early spring, with the first community workshops scheduled in St. George’s and Hamilton. The Department has pledged that progress will be monitored through quarterly reports and that the initiative will be reviewed after the first year to assess impact and make adjustments as needed.
