A fresh wave of runners is heading to Bermuda’s capital this weekend for a charity 5‑km run that has attracted both local enthusiasts and a surprise guest from the PGA Tour. The event, organised by the Bermuda Running Club in partnership with the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, will take place on the cobbled streets of Hamilton on Saturday morning.
Participants will be challenged by the island’s notorious wind gusts, with local meteorologists predicting speeds up to 15 knots in the early hours. Organisers say the weather will add a thrilling element to the race, prompting runners to fine‑tune pacing and hydration strategies.
The highlight of the programme is a "Running with Rick" session, where Rick Nash, a former PGA Tour professional turned fitness coach, will lead a 30‑minute warm‑up. Nash, who has been active in Bermuda’s sporting community for the past decade, explained that his training regime emphasises strength‑endurance and wind‑resistance drills.
All proceeds will go to the Bermuda Cancer Society, and the race will also serve as a platform for local sponsors to showcase community support. With 300 runners registered, the event promises to be a showcase of island resilience and athletic spirit.
"Bermuda’s winds are part of what makes running here unique," said club president Maria Thompson. "We’re excited to see how our community adapts and thrives.”
