Bermuda’s St. George’s Golf Club will be the site of a historic moment next week when rising star Austin Lemieux steps onto the green for his first PGA Tour event. The 27‑year‑old Canadian, who has earned his card in a record‑breaking season on the Korn Ferry Tour, will play in the tournament that carries the island’s name and will be one of the few PGA Tour events to be held in the British Overseas Territory.
The decision to host the event in Hamilton reflects the island’s growing reputation as a destination for world‑class golf. St. George’s, with its sweeping ocean views and challenging island‑style layout, has previously hosted the U.S. Open and the British Open. Local officials say the event will bring a boost to the economy, with fans expected to fill hotels and restaurants in the capital.
“Having a PGA Tour event in Bermuda is a point of pride for all of us,” said St. George’s Course Manager, Mark St. John. “We’re excited to welcome Austin and all the other competitors and to showcase our unique course to a global audience.”
Lemieux, who has already expressed admiration for the island’s golfing heritage, plans to use the experience to prepare for a full season on the Tour. Fans in Bermuda will have the opportunity to watch him play in person for the first time, a rare treat for local golf enthusiasts.
