In response to a surge of firearm incidents reported across Bermuda since last Sunday, Minister of National Security Senator Ryan Robinson Perinchief and Police Commissioner Darrin Simons convened a joint press conference this afternoon at the Government House in Hamilton. The two officials addressed the media on the nature of the incidents, the response of law‑enforcement agencies, and steps being taken to ensure public safety.
Robinson Perinchief outlined the government's immediate measures, including the deployment of additional police units to high‑risk neighbourhoods and the review of existing gun‑control legislation. Commissioner Simons detailed the investigative process, noting that several of the recent shootings have been linked to a single suspect who is currently in custody. “We are working round‑the‑clock to trace all firearms involved and to locate any accomplices,” Simons said. The officials also emphasised that the police remain vigilant and that any citizen who has information is urged to contact the Bermuda Police Force.
The press conference, which was streamed live on the BermudaObserver and other social‑media platforms, allowed reporters to ask follow‑up questions. Both leaders said they will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as new information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
