The Bermuda Youth Tech Initiative (BYTI) opened its doors on Tuesday to a fresh cohort of young coders in a free robotics workshop hosted at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Designed for students aged 12 to 18, the four‑hour session saw over 30 participants assemble and program small robots using BASIC‑style code on the local Raspberry Pi kits.

The hands‑on event, led by instructors from the Bermuda Institute of Technology and the local chapter of the International Society of Automation, covered basic circuitry, sensor integration, and simple AI algorithms. Participants were challenged to program their robots to navigate a maze and respond to light cues, fostering teamwork and problem‑solving skills.

"Providing a low‑cost, accessible entry point into STEM is essential for keeping Bermuda’s youth competitive in a global tech economy," said BYTI director Marlon Thompson. "We hope this workshop sparks long‑term interest in engineering and opens doors for future scholarships and internships within the island’s growing tech sector."
