More than 750 executives, regulators, policymakers and industry figures gathered at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club last week for the 2026 Bermuda International Life & Annuity Conference, hosted by Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers [BILTIR].

The event drew participants from 15 countries, underscoring Bermuda's standing as a leading jurisdiction for the long-term insurance and reinsurance sector. The island has built a substantial life and annuity market in recent years, with BILTIR member companies now managing significant global assets and employing a growing workforce locally.

Attendees heard discussions on the trends shaping the long-term (re)insurance landscape, including regulatory developments, capital management and the evolving needs of policyholders across international markets. The conference also provided a platform for dialogue between industry leaders and policymakers on maintaining Bermuda's competitive edge while upholding robust regulatory standards.

BILTIR, which represents the island's long-term insurers and reinsurers, has positioned the annual gathering as a flagship event for the sector. Beyond the boardroom conversations, the influx of international visitors delivered a welcome boost to local hotels, restaurants and service providers during the conference period.

Organisers said the strong turnout reflected continued global confidence in Bermuda as a domicile of choice for life and annuity business, and signalled optimism about the sector's trajectory in the years ahead.
