Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward says months of face-to-face engagement with residents across Bermuda have brought one recurring concern to the forefront of his work, according to an opinion column released this week.

Mr Hayward said he has spent recent months meeting Bermudians from all walks of life, attending Progressive Labour Party meetings around the island and speaking directly with people in communities from Dockyard to St George's. He described the exchanges as honest and meaningful, while acknowledging that some of the conversations were difficult.

The Minister said the feedback gathered through these sessions has helped shape his understanding of the social and economic pressures facing local families, and he signalled that the concerns raised will inform the Government's approach to social development policy going forward. He framed the listening exercise as part of a broader commitment to ensuring that decisions made in Cabinet reflect the lived experiences of ordinary Bermudians rather than assumptions made from afar.

The column comes as the Government continues to face questions over the cost of living, housing affordability and opportunities for young Bermudians entering the workforce. Mr Hayward indicated that further details on initiatives flowing from the community consultations would be shared in due course, and he encouraged residents to keep making their voices heard through constituency meetings and public forums across the island.
