The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) will observe its 147th anniversary this week, marking a long history of protecting and serving Hamilton and the wider island. The annual Police Week, scheduled from Monday to Friday, will feature a range of activities aimed at acknowledging the dedication of officers, support staff, their families and community partners.

Commissioner Darrin Simons welcomed the opportunity to reflect on the Service’s legacy. "Police Week allows us to pause, review the work we do and reaffirm our commitment to the safety of all Bermudians," he said. He added that the Service has evolved over the decades, expanding its roles from traditional law‑enforcement duties to include community outreach, mental‑health liaison and public education.

The week’s program will include open‑house tours of the Bermuda Police Academy, a public safety fair in Hamilton’s waterfront district and a family‑friendly parade featuring veteran officers and their children. Local schools will participate in a mock‑court exercise to raise awareness of the legal process.

Community leaders and residents are invited to join the celebrations and learn more about the Service’s efforts to recruit young talent through the Police Academy’s summer internship program. The BPS also plans to highlight its partnerships with the Bermuda Fire Service and the Department of Health in addressing public‑health concerns.

Police Week serves as a reminder of the BPS’s sustained contribution to the island’s peace and order, and underscores its ongoing commitment to fostering trust between law‑enforcement and the communities it serves.
