In a fresh push toward healthier living, Bermuda-born entrepreneur David DeBraga has opened a modern fitness centre in Hamilton’s Riverside area. The 3,000‑square‑foot facility, named FitBermuda, blends state‑of‑the‑art equipment with a strong emphasis on community‑based programming.
DeBraga, who has spent the past decade training in both local and international fitness circuits, said the decision to open the centre was driven by a desire to make quality exercise accessible to residents of all ages. The hub offers a range of group classes – from yoga and Pilates to high‑intensity interval training – alongside personalised coaching and nutrition guidance. A dedicated kids’ zone provides supervised sessions for children aged 6 to 12, encouraging a lifelong love of movement.
Local officials welcomed the launch, noting that the new venue could help address rising health concerns in the island’s population. "We are delighted to see a business that not only serves our community’s fitness needs but also supports local employment and tourism," said Mayor James Clark. "FitBermuda’s community outreach programmes, such as free morning walks and wellness workshops, align well with our public health goals."
DeBraga plans to partner with nearby schools and health‑care providers to offer discounted memberships for students and seniors, while also hosting seasonal fitness challenges that celebrate Bermuda’s maritime heritage.
The centre opened its doors on Monday and offers a complimentary introductory class for all first‑time visitors.
