Gilberto Araújo, a long‑time resident of Hamilton and a prominent figure in Bermuda’s business community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2026, at the age of 68.

Born in 1958, Araújo built a career that spanned tourism, hospitality and retail. In 1992 he launched Bermuda Bites, a bakery that became a staple in local markets for its signature spiced cakes and traditional Bermudian treats. His entrepreneurial spirit helped revive several historic storefronts in Hamilton’s Front Street, turning them into family‑friendly cafés and boutiques.

Beyond commerce, Araújo was an active member of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and served on the Tourism Board’s community outreach committee. He established the Araújo Youth Arts Fund in 2008, which provided scholarships for young Bermudians pursuing music and visual arts. His philanthropy also extended to the local food bank, where he regularly led volunteer drives.

A private funeral will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with a memorial service following at the Queens Hotel Ballroom. He is survived by his wife, Maria, and their three children—Lourdes, Carlos, and Sofia. Colleagues and friends will mourn the loss of a devoted entrepreneur, mentor, and friend whose legacy will continue to shape Hamilton’s cultural and economic landscape.
