Hamilton – Premier David A. Roberts confirmed that he will step down from office on 31 October, a move that comes after a period of steady economic growth and a record for Bermuda’s financial services sector. The announcement was made during a press briefing at the Government House, where the Premier thanked the people of Bermuda for their support.

Roberts, who has led the island since 2017, said the decision was made in the best interest of the country’s future. "Bermuda’s economy is on a solid foundation," he noted, citing a 5% increase in GDP and a 2% rise in employment in the latest quarterly report. "I believe it is time for new leadership to take the helm and build upon this momentum.

"The transition will be managed through the established line of succession, with Deputy Premier Laura Brown scheduled to assume the role. Roberts will remain in office until a formal handover next month to ensure continuity of policy initiatives, particularly in the areas of tourism recovery and digital infrastructure.

The government will convene a meeting of cabinet members to outline the transition plan and to discuss the upcoming leadership election. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the process, which will be conducted in accordance with Bermuda’s constitution and electoral laws.

"We remain committed to maintaining Bermuda’s reputation as a stable, business-friendly jurisdiction," Roberts concluded, adding that the forthcoming leadership would "carry forward the legacy of progress and resilience that has defined our nation for decades."
