In a quiet finish in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Hamilton resident Chris Johnson celebrated a landmark accomplishment. The 32‑year‑old completed his 100th marathon at the Steamtown Marathon on Saturday, joining a select group of runners who have crossed that milestone in the United States.

Johnson, who has run the annual Bermuda Marathon Series every year since 2013, said the finish felt “like a homecoming.” He trained for the event in both Bermuda and the United States, noting that the support of local running clubs and the camaraderie of the Scranton crowd helped keep him motivated.

The Steamtown Marathon, part of the U.S. Marathon Circuit, attracts more than 2,000 finishers each year. In 2024, 47 participants achieved their 50th marathon, while 12 runners celebrated their 100th. Officials from the Scranton Athletic Club praised Johnson’s dedication and called his achievement a source of pride for the broader Bermudian sporting community.

"Chris’s perseverance exemplifies the spirit of our athletes," said John Miller, president of the Bermuda Athletic Association. "His accomplishment brings attention to our local running scene and inspires upcoming runners back home."

Johnson plans to return to Bermuda early next month for a beach‑side training session and hopes to encourage other Bermudians to pursue long‑distance running goals.
