Ruth Skinner, a lifelong Hamilton resident and beloved pillar of Bermudian education, died peacefully on October 3, 2026, at the age of 84. Born in 1942 in St. George’s, Ruth devoted more than five decades to teaching at St. George’s Anglican School, where she inspired countless students with her passion for literature and her commitment to fostering a love of learning.

Beyond the classroom, Ruth was a driving force behind the Hamilton Youth Development Initiative, a volunteer program that offers after‑school tutoring, arts workshops and mentorship for local teens. Her dedication earned her the Bermuda Education Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

Ruth’s civic engagement extended to the Hamilton City Council, where she served from 1995 to 2003, advocating for improved public parks and stronger community health services. She also chaired the borough’s Cultural Heritage Committee, helping to preserve historic sites along the waterfront.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Miguel Santos; their daughter, Lila, a marine biologist; and son, Jace, a senior engineer with the Bermuda Government. Friends and colleagues remember her as a warm, unwavering presence and a tireless advocate for youth and heritage.

A private memorial service will be held at St. George’s Parish Church on October 10, 2026, with a public viewing scheduled for October 9. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hamilton Youth Development Initiative.
