Bermudian long‑distance runner Amaris Munya was a key contributor to Montverde Academy’s girls cross‑country squad, which secured second place out of 18 teams at the Lake Minneola Last Chance Invitational in Florida. Munya finished 16th overall in a field of 131 athletes, posting a time of 20 minutes and 8.1 seconds.

Montverde’s team performance was anchored by senior Lyla McMillen, who led the Eagles with a 19:34.4 finish, and junior runner Amaris Munya, the third‑placed athlete from the school. The trio’s combined efforts earned the team a solid second‑place finish behind the first‑place squad, a strong result that will help the team qualify for the upcoming state championships.

Munya, who has been competing in U.S. cross‑country meets since her freshman year, highlighted the importance of the experience for young athletes travelling overseas. "Competing against such a large field of competitors is a great test of our training, and it’s great to see how far we’ve come as a team," she said.

The Lake Minneola Invitational attracts top cross‑country programs from across the Southeast. Montverde’s performance demonstrates the growing competitiveness of its athletics program and provides a promising outlook for its athletes as they prepare for the national stage.
