Fifteen local runners are gearing up to represent Bermuda against elite endurance athletes from around the globe when the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships get underway on 17th October.

The satellite-format competition will see teams from 74 countries racing simultaneously on courses in their home territories. Bermuda's squad will tackle a demanding loop that begins and ends at Clearwater Field in Southside, St David's, testing runners' stamina and mental resilience over the unique last-person-standing format.

The Backyard Ultra concept requires competitors to complete a set loop every hour, on the hour, with the challenge continuing until only one runner remains. The format has grown rapidly in popularity worldwide, attracting some of the most accomplished names in ultra-distance running.

For Bermuda's contingent, the event offers a rare opportunity to measure themselves against the world's best without leaving the island. Organisers say the Clearwater course will push participants to their limits as they navigate the Southside terrain through day and night.

Supporters are encouraged to come out to Clearwater Field to cheer on the local team as they fly Bermuda's flag in this gruelling international showdown.
