Devonshire‑born Thomas Cechini left a splash in Easton, Pennsylvania, when he finished second in the men’s 200‑yard freestyle at Loyola University Maryland’s dual meet against Lafayette College. The 20‑year‑old, a sophomore on Loyola’s roster, clocked a 1:43.41, just shy of the winning time set by Lafayette’s swimmer.

The dual meet, held in Lafayette’s Weinstein Natatorium, saw Loyola outscore the Colonials 219‑81. Cechini’s performance was a highlight for the Loyola men’s C team, where he also opened the relay race.

Cechini, who grew up in Devonshire and has represented Bermuda in international competition, said the experience was both challenging and rewarding. “Competing against strong college teams in the U.S. helps me gauge my progress and prepare for larger events,” he noted.

His time places him among the top performers in Loyola’s history for the event and showcases the growing talent of Bermudian swimmers on the international stage. The university’s swim program has been a springboard for athletes like Cechini, who balance academic pursuits with athletic excellence."
